The house

Whether you are looking for a romantic retreat, honeymoon haven or family friendly adventure, The Island can cater for occasions magnificent or modest. The vibe is not so much plush luxury, nor austere minimalist, but rather stylish, welcoming, and comfortable, with an unforgettable entry and exit, and fun touches in the house. All this adds up to a unique venue in which to build your own fun memories together. The true luxury feature is that you have complete privacy. There isn’t even a doorbell, which means no unwanted visitors. Is there anything more enthralling than a celebratory stay on your own private island? We think not!

We are blessed by every type of weather in Newquay, often all in the same day! Despite this variability, there is more sun than you might expect and when the sun does come out we tend to follow it round the house. The kitchen area is being completely renovated into an open plan kitchen-diner, perfectly located for when there is morning sun to stream in.

Please note that all the photos on this website are from before the renovation.

During the day we are normally out and about exploring the coast, but if we are relaxing at home we sit in deckchairs, or stretch out in our free-standing hammock, in the sun on the lawn.

Lunch could be on the sun deck, with a 180+ degree view of the horizon and coastline.

Then heading inside, the afternoon sun streams into the conservatory, an ideal place for a Cornish cream tea.

The main downstairs space is open and airy, with chic touches of modern elegance. The living and dining area is rich in natural light, with ocean views. The furniture layout will be changing substantially as the downstairs area becomes more open plan.

Art by local and family artists throughout the house adds a personal touch. Outside, Neptune gazes out to sea.

Main bedroom

The main bedroom will be changing completely in the renovation, being moved to the opposite side of the house, to give views out to the horizon. This was a major reason for doing the renovation in the first place, which started with the simple idea of a small loft conversion to create a bedroom facing out to sea, and ended up as a year-long building project rebuilding a substantial part of the interior of the house.

Main bedroom suite

The new main bed en suite bathroom will be entirely new. The shower will be filled with light coming in from high windows on all four sides,  and will give a view to the horizon through a large porthole window. A free standing bath will enable a luxurious warm soaking while listening to the waves breaking on the rock way below.

Bed 2 - Quay West

The second bedroom is being newly constructed out of the West gable, with a new large triangular window facing out over acres of beach and waves to the harbour – the original “New Quay” dating back to 1439. The bedroom can be set up as a double or twin.

Right next door is a bathroom with twin showers, which can be for your own exclusive use.

Bed 3 - with the bay window

On the ground floor you will find the Bay Window Bedroom, which can be set up as a double or twin bedroom, and has its own small en suite WC and shower room.

BATHROOMS

The downstairs family bathroom and all en suite shower rooms are finished with a boutique style.

White fluffy bathrobes, bath towels and complimentary bath products are available for your use.

Living Room

The gorgeous open plan living and dining space offers sea views to the horizon through the bay window.

Cosy up on the charming, faux-fur clad rocking chairs for a prime viewing position, or lounge on the snug sofa or in the armchairs.

With a wood burner located in the sitting room area and eco briquettes provided for your use, you’ll always be toasty by the fire!

Set the mood with a record from The Island’s eclectic selection of vinyl, or plug in or stream your own music though the valve amplifier.

On stormy days, check out the games cupboard, well-stocked to keep little and big guests amused, while the fire crackles and the boom of the waves crashing on the rocks below reminds you that you are on your own solid rock in the ocean.
