Imagine being able to live on your own private island with panoramic views of the ocean. Sounds like a mere fantasy? On The Island your hideaway dream can become a reality. This nautical bolthole is perched above Towan Beach in Newquay, on the beautiful and dramatic north coast of Cornwall. Privacy is guaranteed on The Island as the only access is by your own private suspension footbridge. As George Clarke said when he came across the bouncing bridge: "Oh my God, that’s just staggering. What a way to enter a house!"
Your first tentative steps along this spectacular, award-winning bridge are just the beginning of the adventure that awaits you on The Island. Relax, knowing that it will be exclusively yours for a long weekend, mid-week break, or longer stay of a week or two giving you time to explore beautiful Cornwall.
As soon as you cross the bridge, with its breath-taking beach and sea views, you leave the rest of the world behind. Step off the bridge into a hidden garden wrapped around the house, masked from the outside world by a border of greenery. This enchanting place provides sea views to the far horizon and a roaring ocean symphony, creating a secret haven.
Raise your flag of choice to announce your arrival, then explore the rest of the three-bedroom house, which sleeps a maximum of six people. The house has plenty of space for everyone to relax and have fun, including a conservatory and your own bar room. Despite its size the house also works well as a private hideaway for a couple. Immerse yourself in the magic of this special place and you will see why so many guests say they don’t want to leave…
The Island is securely fenced and suitable for children and dogs. All the large sandy beaches below The Island are dog-friendly, all year round.
Important: The Island is currently undergoing some major renovation works, which will eventually make it an even better stay for all our lovely guests. The photos on this website are from before the renovation. The downstairs area is becoming more open plan. The upstairs area is being changed completely, developing the attic area. We will still have three bedrooms, but two will be upstairs and one downstairs. We plan to reopen when the renovations are complete at some point in 2024, we hope later in the autumn but that will depend on factors outside our control including weather! Once we have a fairly certain reopening date we will start taking bookings for the remainder of 2024. We are however now taking bookings for stays in 2025; please see the Bookings page.
