Outside

The garden: our talented gardener Jan visits the house regularly to look after both the outside space and indoor plants on changeover day where possible. If you are enjoying a stay at the house longer than a week, or if it is particularly hot, we kindly request that you water the house plants as necessary, although we have generally chosen appropriately low maintenance, coastal plants that can generally look after themselves!

Outdoor furniture: we provide a selection of outdoor seating for guests including: four deckchairs, two sun loungers, plenty of dining chairs, an egg chair on the porch, and a free-standing hammock in a black cover which usually lives on the porch.

Dining al fresco: we encourage you to make the most of the setting during your stay, whether enjoying a romantic dinner a deux on the bottom terrace or indulging in a seafood buffet with friends. We have a wooden dining table which sits under cover on the porch outside the dining room. We also have our Braaisland stone BBQ table outside the conservatory (see below). We politely request that, for your own safety, you use the plastic glasses that can be found in the kitchen for outdoor use.

Braaisland BBQ table. We bought this after seeing it at the Chelsea Flower Show, one of the very first made. The top is highly compressed stone with no glue or resin. Watching the team at Braaisland deliver the heavy stone top across the bridge on a windy day was exhilarating: Braaisland delivery. Please be careful removing the central lid which is fairly heavy stone and wouldn’t like to be dropped, especially onto the table. See “BBQs” for more instructions.

Outside shower: the warm shower is perfect for rinsing down the salt and sand from the beach! It works for dirty paws as well as people in wetsuits. The temperature has been set and shouldn’t need adjusting.

Lighting: there are outside candle lamps around, usually in the shed and/or on the table on the porch.
